Press Release For Immediate Release April 9, 2008
(MIDDLETOWN) - A Butler County jury deliberated for two and a half hours on Monday before convicting Steven Sturgell, a 41-year-old Middletown resident, of Domestic Violence, a third degree felony. This conviction is Sturgell's fifth conviction for Domestic Violence.
Sturgell's charge stemmed from an incident on November 18, 2007, at the home of Sturgell and his wife. During the course of an argument, Sturgell used a wire coat hanger to assault his wife, leaving several large bruises on her body. At trial, Sturgell testified in his own defense, claiming that he "swatted" his wife two times with the hanger in self-defense.
Sturgell remains in the Butler County Jail after having his bond revoked and faces up to five years when he is sentenced on May 29, 2008, at 8:30 am before the Honorable Judge Keith Spaeth.
