Penny Shepherd and Christine Hensley both entered into guilty pleas

(Hamilton, Ohio) Robin Piper, Butler County Prosecutor announced today the guilty pleas of two Middletown con-women. Sisters, Penny Shepherd and Christine Hensley both entered into guilty pleas this week, in lieu of facing a jury trial.

On September 21, 2007, Penny Shepherd, along with the help of her sister Christina Hensley, tricked an 81-year old lady into signing a real estate contract and then stole $64,900, wiping out her life’s savings. Penny Shepherd asked the elderly victim to purchase a worthless piece of property in Kentucky.

The Defendants maintained their innocence, claiming the real estate transaction was a valid business deal. Middletown Police Detectives and the Prosecutors conducted a thorough appraisal of the land and determined that land was well below the $64,900 sale price and also learned that the Defendant’s did not even own the land in question.

Christina Hensley entered a plea of Guilty to Complicity to Theft and faces up to 8 years in prison. Christina Hensley will be sentenced on July 9, 2008 before Judge Sage.

Penny Shepherd entered a plea of Guilty to Theft, Forgery, and Securing Writings by Deception. Penny Shepherd also plead Guilty to two counts of Theft and two counts of Falsification for food stamp fraud, medicaid fraud, and SSI fraud totaling over $47,000. Penny Shepherd will be sentenced on July 23, 2008 before Judge Sage and faces up to 24 years in prison.

Prosecutor Piper stated, “We don’t take kindly to those who prey upon the frail or elderly. We’ve recovered some of the victim’s money and if the defendants don’t pay full restitution before their sentencing date, they should go to prison for a long time.”
