16-year old Hamilton juvenile sentenced to 31 years to life in prison

Press Release For Immediate Release June 12, 2008

(Hamilton, Ohio) Amber Rodriguez, a 16-year old Hamilton juvenile was sentenced earlier today to 31 years to life in prison for her role in the robbery and brutal murder of Sabysachi Debnath.

On November 12, 2007, Rodriguez, along with two other co-defendants, bound Sabysachi Debnath with duct tape in a room at the Tri-County Inn in West Chester, stabbing him multiple times and then stealing jewelry, credit cards, and numerous other items. The defendants then went on a shopping spree, using the victim’s credit cards to make purchases and withdraw money. Rodriguez was indicted for Aggravated Murder, Aggravated Robbery, Kidnaping, Aggravated Burglary, Theft and Tampering with Evidence.

Rodriguez, who was bound over from the juvenile court system to be tried as an adult, was given a sentence of 30 years to life for Aggravated Murder and an additional one year for Theft. Common Pleas Judge Keith Spaeth also gave Rodriguez ten years each on the Kidnaping and Aggravating Burglary charges and 3 years for Tampering with Evidence, to run concurrent with the Aggravated Murder sentence. The charge of Aggravated Robbery was merged for purposes of sentencing.

Co-defendant Michael Douglass received a life sentence without parole yesterday before Judge Hedric and the final defendant, Roger Whitten is scheduled for trial August 11, 2008.
