Thirty-three year old Rod VanLoan of Fairfield, Ohio was found guilty of Endangering Children and Murder on August 8, 2008

(Hamilton, Ohio) Thirty-three year old Rod VanLoan of Fairfield, Ohio was found guilty of Endangering Children and Murder on August 8, 2008. After four days trial, which included the testimony of Officer Sandy Sears of the Fairifeld Police Department and the defendant, the jury took ninety-minutes to find VanLoan guilty of abusing and killing his fourteen-month old daughter at his 15 Dusk Court home. VanLoan faces a mandatory life sentence when he is sentenced before Common Pleas Judge Charles Pater on September 23, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. Prosecution Piper stated, "It is abhorrent anytime an adult physically abuses a little person, but it is beyond words when an parent takes the life of a child. A parent’s role is to nurture and protect his or her child and to violently breach this natural law, is intolerable. VanLoan thought he could lie and deceive to avoid accountability for what he did — the solid work of Fairfield Officer Sandy Sears and Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Muench-McElfresh prevented him from being successful."
